Senior Investigator with the Investigative Department for the Western District of Krasnodar Andrey Ostrizhny opened a criminal case with regard to the fact of death of Ilya Afrosin from Krasnodar under Part 4, Article 111 of the Criminal Code of the RF (“intended infliction of grave health damage that led to death by negligence”). Lawyers with the Committee Against Torture are authorized to participate in the criminal case as representatives of Svetlana Kotsareva, Afrosin’s sister, who was declared a victim.  ⠀
As we have previously reported, Yury Afrosin applied to the Krasnodar branch of the Committee Against Torture, and informed human rights defenders that his son Ilya Afrosin was found lying on the steps of one of the city shops shortly after the visit to the police department. He died in an ambulance
.

However, Ilya’s parents learned about it only a month later, when his father received a call from the Krasnodar Investigative Department. According to the medical certificate, the death was caused by the spleen injury. Shortly before his death, Ilya visited the police department, and after that he sent the video with the traces of injuries and contusions, which, according to him, he received due to illegal actions of the Patrol-Guard Service police officers, to his sister. In the video, he also talks about barbarous methods, applied at the police department.

Public attention to the case helped the lawyers with the Committee Against Torture to find the witnesses of Ilya Afrosin’s death.

This happened in my presence at Turgeneva 148. “For one and a half hours, ambulance was called from different phones. The guy really felt bad, his tongue tilted back, he was losing consciousness, was holding his stomach, complained about pain. His pupils were normal, not like of a junkie”, user _lexreal_ writes in his comments in Instragram.

We are thankful to the Krasnodar people for their personal involvement in this story and the support of the media which published the news. Now we are questioning the witnesses who contacted us ourselves, — lawyer with the Committee Against Torture Anna Kotsareva comments. – It is important to note that in this case the Investigative Committee worked promptly and adequately. Investigator Andrey Ostrizhny authorized us as the victim’s representatives”.
